SumoVore H-Block Mod

For those that want to try a different way to assemble their SumoVore I have taken a few pictures to show the solution that I came up with. I used Birch for this, but you can use plastic, or even steel if you have a milling machine.

Mill a piece of wood down to 1 11/16" x 15/16" x whatever( how many you want). Just make sure that the piece is long enough to pass safely thru the table saw...small pieces can be dangerous.

Set your table saw blade depth to 1/2", adjust the guide so the blade cuts thru the middle of the 15/16", make a pass thru the wood on the table saw, flip the piece around so that the opposite side of what was up against the guide, is now up against the guide, and make another pass on the same cut side. Then flip it over and do the same to the other side.

Now you need to repeat this process. Moving the table saw guide out alittle each time, until you have a 7/16" gap. When you are done you will have an H-Blank .

Next, if you have a radial arm saw, go cut off a 1" section of your H-Blank. If you don't have a radial-arm saw then use a miter-box, and try to cut it as flush as possible.

I use 2, #4 wood screws 1 1/4" long to mount each motor onto the wood block. The best way to mark the drill holes for the motors is to place a motor on the block and use the screw holes on the motor to guide a nail or punch to mark the wood block. Use a 3/32" drill bit in a drill press, and set the depth on the drill press if you can.

I used 2, #2 3/8" wood screws for mounting the circuit board, one screw needs a small washer to keep it from falling thru a big zip tie hole. There are a few holes you can use, try to avoid the ones really close to the edge of the H-block. Mark the holes you want to use, and pre-drill the holes.

For the battery holder I used 4, #2 3/8" screws. You need to drill 4 small holes for the #2 3/8" screws, close to the middle(divider between battery number #2 and #3) of the battery holder so that when you mount it to the center of the H-Block you avoid hitting the motors with the end of the screw...so when you have drilled the holes in the battery holder, line up the battery holder to where ou want to mount it, mark your holes, and then pre-drill the holes in the H-Block. That's it.
